Tracerco’s Well-Established Subsea Inspection Solutions Allow Businesses To Keep Production Targets On Track

“If we can help recover another 1% of oil from offshore for a customer, that’s hundreds of thousands of barrels of additional oil being extracted,” explains Tracerco Chief Executive Officer Jon Tate.

With our innovative technologies we enable businesses working within the hydrocarbon chain to recover more oil, maximise refinery efficiency and keep assets operating safely for longer.

World-leading industrial technology company Tracerco recognises the significance of these factors, which is why the innovative company continues to engage proactively with businesses and ultimately develop products, services, or solutions which are closely aligned to customers’ needs.

The development of non-intrusive pipeline inspections has been a major advance for the offshore oil and gas industry, providing operators with greater access to highly accurate, real-time data at ever greater water depths. Being able to scan and inspect assets accurately and quickly while allowing production to continue is enabling operators to make critical informed decisions, safely and efficiently and can deliver a significant reduction in campaign costs.

Delivering invaluable insights with industry first technology

Tracerco’s Discovery™ and Explorer™ underwater measurement and inspection technologies have a reliable and proven track record from many successful global projects. Discovery™ subsea pipeline inspection system is the world’s only verified inspection technology able to determine both integrity and flow assurance issues. It can distinguish between wax, sand, hydrate, asphaltene, scale and corrosion damage to a high level of accuracy. This can all be achieved without the need to remove thick protective coatings or concrete weight coat. Discovery™ is the only non-invasive inspection technology that can scan pipe-in-pipe and complex bundles without any compromise to accuracy or repeatability.

Discovery™ was commissioned to inspect a complicated riser for corrosion damage of the carrier and production pipe on an asset in the Gulf of Mexico. It has changed subsea pipeline inspection and maintenance by providing a technology that can inspect the integrity of multiple elements during one inspection process. It is this capability which enabled Tracerco to identify two additional problems on the Gulf of Mexico asset.

As with Discovery™, Explorer™ is a non-intrusive scanning solution which detects the location of deposit build-ups and then analyses any detected anomalies. Explorer™ allows the rapid screening of several kilometres of pipeline at typical speeds of up to 100 metres per hour without interrupting production. It measures flow assurance from the outside and can be deployed at depths of up to 3000m (10 000 ft). It can be used to inspect a wide range of pipe diameters and systems including rigid coated or uncoated pipe, pipe-in-pipe, bundles, and flexibles.

Tate added: “We invest in the development of technologies that are able to acquire complex data in real time, which is why we’ve been successful in the oil and gas space. Our solutions help customers protect the operational integrity of their assets and enable them to maximise their productivity.”
