Tracerco Is At The Forefront Of Pipeline Integrity Innovations That Improve Safety And Reliability
Pipeline integrity is one of the most significant challenges in the energy sector – the emphasis being on the ability of a pipeline system to operate safely and reliably without failure within its intended lifespan.
It ensures that pipelines, which transport critical substances such as oil, gas, chemicals, and water, maintain their structural and operational soundness while minimising risks to human safety, the environment, and assets. Pipeline integrity aims to reduce risks related to leaks, ruptures, or environmental contamination while optimising pipeline efficiency and extending its lifespan.
A recent webinar led by Tracerco, the leading industrial technology company providing detection, diagnostic, and measurement solutions, established that 85% of participants believed that pipeline integrity was the biggest challenge facing pipeline operators in the next 5-10 years.
Tracerco is at the forefront of advances in pipeline inspection systems and technologies. Its range of asset integrity inspection services increases operational safety, avoids intrusion and loss of production, and can significantly reduce campaign costs.
Donald Ballantyne, Business Development Manager at Tracerco, explained: “At Tracerco, we recognise the critical importance of pipeline integrity for our customers. Reliable and safe pipeline operations are essential for business success.
“Pipeline integrity is a high-level priority for the energy sector. As pipelines age, the risk of corrosion, external damage, and material fatigue increases, necessitating constant vigilance and proactive management.
Even minor defects can lead to catastrophic failures, posing risks to public safety, the environment, and infrastructure. Ensuring the long-term reliability of these critical systems requires advanced technologies, continuous monitoring and stringent regulatory compliance.”
With a commitment to flexibility and customer satisfaction, Tracerco takes a proactive partnership approach using its expertise to find a solution to an operator’s specific requirements, with safety remaining a key focus.
To support customers in visualising the condition of subsea pipelines, Tracerco developed the DiscoveryTM CT scanner to see integrity flaws of piggable and unpiggable subsea pipelines in real time.
Donald continued: “Discovery™ is a major breakthrough in subsea pipeline inspection. Unlike alternative technologies, such as ultrasonic and pulsed eddy current, Discovery™ is a more cost-effective way to provide operators assurance of the integrity of unpiggable coated pipelines as it eliminates the risk of corrosion posed by removing the coating.”
Via non-intrusive inspection, DiscoveryTM can measure pipe wall thickness through any type of protective coating, allowing operators to make informed decisions on the future of a pipeline, without interrupting production.
He concluded: “This cost-effective approach can eliminate the potential operating costs associated with designing a new section of pipeline, recommissioning, pipeline modification, and the time and risks associated with coating removal/reapplication including long and expensive vessel hire.”
Tracerco is at the forefront of innovation, with over 450 employees in 17 countries. The company is well-recognised for delivering innovative technologies and enabling its customers to make informed decisions.
