Brimmond: Specialists In Manufacturing And Renting Hydraulic And Mechanical Equipment For Nearly 30 Years

From hydraulic power units (HPUs) and pump packages to marine cranes, umbilical reelers and filtration equipment, Aberdeenshire headquartered Brimmond offer one of the most diverse ranges of specialist hydraulic and mechanical equipment in the UK.

Working closely with companies across the oil and gas, renewable energy and marine sectors, Brimmond has established an enviable reputation over the past 30 years for meeting the demands of clients, offering both rental and manufacturing services.

Safety, reliability and functionality remain at the forefront of both service offerings - all units can be certified in compliance with industry standards such as DNV, and statutory regulations such as ATEX and PED.

Rental equipment with a track record in uptime

Ensuring the safety and reliability of any equipment leaving Brimmond’s purpose-built engineering workshop is a cornerstone of the company’s ethos. So it’s no surprise to note that in Q4 of 2024, the uptime of Brimmond rental equipment was 99.96%, equating to just two days of downtime out of a total of 4829 days rental.

Brimmond’s equipment provides power to subsea tooling such as diamond wire saws, shears, chop saws, dredging and diver tooling.

The extensive fleet includes:

  • Diesel, Electrical and Hydraulic Power Units

  • Spoolers, reelers and winches

  • Pump packages

Manufacture: standard and bespoke engineered solutions

Brimmond’s team of mechanical, subsea and hydraulic engineers have established a reputation for delivering an extensive range of tailored engineering systems from concept / FEED right through to completion of the product or service.

They specialise in creating bespoke, reliable and user-friendly systems which can withstand the harshest of environments.

With power ranges from 18kW to 2MW, Brimmond’s diesel, electric and pneumatically powered units can either be permanently installed or transportable where portability is required. Pressure ranges from 50 Bar to 420 Bar and flow from 25lpm to 4000lpm, and they are available as basic open frame designs through to fully enclosed units with acoustic lining.

Their range of hydraulic, diesel, pneumatic and electric (VFD) reelers and spoolers comprises standard designs, or can be designed and built to customers’ specific requirements.

Brimmond’s engineering team is currently working on a project to manufacture the company’s biggest reeler to date. Storing 1.6km of umbilical, the reeler for the intervention workover control systems (IWOCS) on the Rosebank field, has an outer diameter of 93mm, with the frame’s mass gross weight (msg) measuring 35 tonnes!

Other examples of bespoke projects include designing and manufacturing a reeler to handle the umbilical for a subsea trencher and an HPU and reeler to power a diamond wire saw.
